In April of 2003, Dawn Bennett was high bidder for a silent auction sponsored by the Science Center of Hickory.  My wife, Diann, and I had placed our Catalina 30 up as an auction item.  The high bidder could pick the day and have a trip out on Lake Norman- plus food- for a total of six guests.   Dawn chose Nov 8th as the day.  It was a brisk windy day with many clouds.

By the time we anchored for lunch, the hot tomato soup was welcomed by all of us.  Friend, Bill Mixon of Hickory, served as volunteer 1st Mate and cook.  After a bit of nap time, the crew came alive to see McGuire Nuclear Station as well as the balloon and boat that kept crowding our area.
